    About the American Philosophical Society

The American Philosophical Society, the oldest learned society in the United States, was founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin for the purpose of “promoting useful knowledge.” In the 21st century we sustain this mission in three principal ways. We honor and engage leading scholars, scientists, and professionals through elected membership and opportunities for interdisciplinary, intellectual fellowship, particularly in our semi-annual Meetings. We support research and discovery through grants and fellowships, lectures, publications, prizes, exhibitions, and public education. We serve scholars through a research library of manuscripts and other collections internationally recognized for their enduring historic value. The American Philosophical Society’s current activities reflect the founder’s spirit of inquiry, provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas, and convey our conviction that intellectual inquiry and critical thought are inherently in the best interest of the public.

For Adults 21 years of age and up only!

    Riddle me this…

Clues & Booze & Chews scavenger hunt returns to Cliveden with a new theme: Twilight Tales!

Cliveden’s grounds, Carriage House Visitor Center, and Main House will be used to solve clues about Cliveden’s history, but this year the clues will be found in a broadsheet. To find the answers, you’ll need to use context clues in order to complete the hunt. The devil is in the details, so read carefully!

Clues & Booze & Chews: Twilight Tales begins at 6:30 PM, with the scavenger hunt beginning promptly at 7 PM. Try to arrive before 6:30 PM—there’ll be a mini-tour available that’ll give you an edge over the competition.

The scavenger hunt can be completed solo or as a group. The first to complete the hunt in the shortest amount of time wins!

Editor’s Note: Tickets are $35 and on sale now through Eventbrite and at the door. Price of admission includes the game, two drink tickets, and food. The scavenger hunt is for adults 21 years of age and up only as alcohol will be served. Please be sure to bring identification with you as it will be checked. Visitors should check-in at the Carriage House to receive a broadsheet and drink tickets. For any questions, please contact our office at 215-848-1777 or Jocelyn Rouse, Communications Coordinator, at jrouse@cliveden.org.

In case of inclement weather, Clues & Booze & Chews: Twilight Tales will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019.
